I designed it with a single name meant to last 10 years. I left out illustrations, reduced the palette to two colors, and drew the symbol directly on a grid rather than using a font.
Nothing here was decided by taste. Each of the six decisions has a reason.
What he has done for eleven years amounts to connecting — people to teams, startups to large corporates, founders to capital. So the Y and the J are not set side by side but joined in one unbroken line. The symbol is the job, summarised.
The tail of the J does not fall away — it curls back up. It means catching something and lifting it, and in practical terms it keeps the J readable down to a 16px favicon. Meaning and function came from the same move.
It is BeginMate’s colour. Building a personal brand did not mean cutting the tie to the company, because being someone who built a company is the first credential here. Yellow is used only as a plate, never as type.
The colour of the reviewer’s and adviser’s chair. Yellow alone has energy but no weight. Ink #111114 carries equal weight, so the seat that builds and the seat that judges sit in one set.

The right arm of the Y continues without a break directly into the vertical stem, and that stem curves through a 105° arc with a radius of 30 to form the hook of the J. Two strokes, no seams.
The only technique used was turning the arc to 105° instead of 90°. As the hook end curls slightly upward, the signal of “J” remains even when reduced to favicon size.
대문자로 짜고 자간을 +4% 벌렸습니다. 대문자는 붙여 놓으면 답답해지고, 벌려야 격이 섭니다. 태그라인은 워드마크의 1/5 size로 두되, 글자 사이를 계산해 Matched exactly to the wordmark's width, 두 줄이 하나의 사각형으로 앉습니다.
The typeface is made by extracting the letter outlines of Quicksand and adding rounded strokes. As the strokes get thicker, the corners round off together. All letters are locked as outlines, so the same shape appears even where the font isn't installed.
Ink (black) and signal yellow. 옐로는 비긴메이트에서 그대로 가져왔습니다, 같은 사람이 만든 것이라는 표시입니다. 심볼의 Board (background)이 이 옐로입니다. 대신 규칙 하나가 붙습니다.
옐로를 Text color으로 씁니다. 검정 위 옐로는 13.5 : 1, 본문에도 안전합니다.
옐로를 Not used as a text color. 흰 위 옐로는 1.3 : 1, 안 읽힙니다. 강조는 잉크가 맡고, 옐로는 Painted surface으로만 씁니다.
숫자는 WCAG 명도 대비비입니다. 4.5 : 1 을 넘어야 본문 글자색으로 쓸 수 있습니다. 심볼에서 옐로는 Background plate only 쓰고 마크는 잉크로 찍습니다, 그래야 밝은 배경·어두운 배경 어디서나 같은 모양이 나옵니다. 획을 옐로로 칠한 버전은 만들지 않습니다. 색을 못 쓰는 자리(1도 인쇄·팩스·도장)에는 검정 단색판을 씁니다.

Use the PDF when handing files to a print shop.
